The making of the website was influenced by the above peer-reviewed systematic review article where language barriers are shown to cause longer and more expensive stays. The idea was also influenced by talking to a junior doctor friend who explained how there are sometimes a lack of interpreters for wards and how speaking to patients in their language increases patient satisfaction. Hopefully SvastLexis can bridge the gap between a lack of medical terminology and unsatisfied patients who don’t speak a certain language in the country they’re receiving medical care.
